However, its full host of activities, events, sight-sees, and monuments can be a bit overwhelming. But don’t worry! Here are our top ten favorite places to visit and activities to do this summer.

Displaying a wide array of stunning art pieces and rich history, the St. Louis Art Museum is a must-see at any point in the year; it’s also a great way to stay cool this summer and enrich yourself with a variety of cultures! Sitting on top of Art Hill overlooking Forest Park (an amazing attraction on all its own), the Art Museum allows you to step away from the bustle of everyday life, relax, and enjoy some beautiful artwork. It exhibits a range of mediums, styles, artists, and nations’ work. It’s the perfect spot for a date night, an afternoon with older children, or even some alone time!

2. Frozen Custard Tasting

St. Louis doesn’t joke around with its frozen custard! The city hosts an incredible variety of local frozen custard shops that make for a refreshing treat to enjoy with the family. There are several different locations for many stores to choose from and taste. From Silky’s to Andy’s to Mr. Wizard’s to Fritz’s to the city-wide favorite and nationally recognized Ted Drewes, there is certainly no shortage of custard shops to try out! A great (and delicious 😋) way to spend this summer with your kids is taste-testing each shop to find your favorite.

3. Go Ape Zipline & Adventure Park

Spend a day in the treetops overlooking Creve Coeur Memorial Park at the Go Ape Zipline and Adventure Park! This is an excellent spot if you’re feeling particularly adventurous this summer. With various courses, adventures, and journeys, there’s an incredible selection of thrilling experiences to enjoy here with the whole family. These courses offer a great solution to letting the kids get all their energy and excitement out for the day!

4. The St. Louis Zoo

The St. Louis Zoo is always a classic outing for families of all ages; St. Louis is blessed with an incredible option! With free admission, this is a great no-cost activity for your children this summer. First, take time to observe and learn about many different animals, habitats, environments, and ecosystems at the St. Louis Zoo. Then, if you’re looking for even more fun and excitement, the zoo offers various events and attractions for a small fee per person (kids under age 2 are free at most of these!), and of course, you can stop by the gift shop to find fun souvenirs.

5. Laumier Sculpture Park

If you want to add extra fun to your evening walk, consider the Laumier Sculpture Park! This 105-acre park includes a hiking trail and a wide assortment of incredible sculpture pieces. You can take your time strolling through the paths of this park, enjoying each unique work as you go. Not only is the park itself serene, but the artistic aspect of each piece enhances your time there. From a gigantic eyeball sculpture to a few climbable wooden structures, kids of all ages can enjoy their time spent here and marvel at the creations!

6. Grant’s Farm

Grant’s Farm is a perfect stop on your summer bucket list for another free-admission summer activity, full of enriching history and beautiful architecture (as well as tons of farm animals). This is another excellent family-friendly option to enjoy! Spend your day looking at Clydesdales, goats, old buildings, and learning about Ulysses S. Grant and the Busch Family’s history. For those over the age of 21, don’t forget to try out the featured Anheuser-Busch beers!

7. Coffee Shops & Cafés

Like our frozen custard, St. Louis takes coffee very seriously! Our city features a variety of local chains and independent coffee shops, giving patrons a long list of options to choose from and try out for themselves. Some of our favorites include Teleo Coffee in Kirkwood, More Than Coffee in Ballwin (both featured in Our Favorite Christian-Owned Businesses in St. Louis post!), and Kaldi’s Coffee with several locations around St. Louis County. In addition, Blueprint Coffee in the Loop, Deer Creek Coffee in Ladue and Richmond Heights, and the Wolf Café in Ballwin, to name a few. There is certainly no shortage of delicious coffee shops to try out here.

8. The Delmar Loop

Featuring wide diversity, tasty restaurants, and unique shops, the Delmar Loop is one of the most enjoyable streets in the city! For the more artsy side of the Loop, check out Blick Art Materials, Vintage Vinyl, and the Tivoli Theater (now owned by One Family Church). The street also hosts incredible restaurants such as Salt + Smoke Barbeque, Mission Taco, and Blueberry Hill. The Loop as a whole is full of culture, life, and soul that you don’t want to miss out on!

9. Summer Concert Series at Local Parks

Summer is a great time to get outside and enjoy some music from local bands—all around St. Louis, nearby parks host concert series for residents and visitors free of charge. To name a few, Ryan Hummert Park in Maplewood is holding a concert each month this summer, Des Peres Park is also hosting a show each month from June-August, and Creve Coeur Memorial Park is holding several concerts throughout the summer.
